"Beyond the Flashpoint: Experiential Strategies for De-escalation in Healthcare and Justice Settings"
The intersection of healthcare and criminal justice presents unique challenges and opportunities, particularly when working with shared client populations who often face complex health and social issues. Professionals in both fields benefit greatly from mastering de-escalation techniques and prioritizing self-care, as these skills not only enhance personal well-being but also contribute to safer, more effective interactions with clients. By fostering a trauma-informed, collaborative approach and emphasizing emotional regulation and communication, we create a more secure and supportive environment for both clients and staff. This synergy ultimately leads to better outcomes and a healthier workplace culture.
Dr. Salter has over 25 years of Criminal Justice field experience. He has worked as an adult probation and parole officer, a corrections officer, and a corrections administrator overseeing drug and alcohol rehabilitative services. In addition, Dr. Salter has experience as a hostage negotiator, in developing crisis intervention response systems, in responding and preventing active shooter situations, in correctional emergency response, and as an empowered trainer for the Office of Bombing Prevention.
